The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed the Katsina State Police Command to strengthen security measures around schools across the state to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and educational facilities, Peak Newspaper reports
The directive was conveyed by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Department of Finance and Administration, Sulaiman Abdul, during a two-day operational tour of Katsina State, where he assessed the security architecture of selected educational institutions.
According to the DIG, the police command has been instructed to intensify patrols, improve intelligence gathering, and maintain a strong security presence around schools to prevent violent crimes and create a secure environment for learning.
“The command is ordered to intensify patrols, strengthen intelligence gathering and maintain high police visibility around educational institutions to prevent violent crimes and guarantee a safe environment for teaching and learning,” he stated.
As part of the inspection, the DIG visited the Police Children School and the Government Girls Technical and Commercial College in Charanchi Local Government Area.
He examined key security infrastructure, including perimeter fencing, access control points, security posts, and the deployment of police personnel.
The police chief also held separate meetings with school administrators to obtain firsthand information on security challenges facing the institutions.
He urged school authorities to enforce strict access control measures and promptly report any suspicious activities within and around their premises to security agencies.
The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to enhance the protection of educational institutions and safeguard students from security threats.
