The Chief of Staff to the President, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, has threatened to institute a ₦10 billion defamation lawsuit against one Adeyemi over allegations made against him, insisting that the claims are false and damaging to his reputation, Peak Newspaper reports.
Through his legal team, Gbajabiamila maintained that he had never had any contact whatsoever with Adeyemi, describing the allegations as baseless and defamatory.
According to the lawyers, the planned suit will seek ₦10 billion in damages for defamation, as well as a perpetual injunction restraining Adeyemi from making or publishing any further defamatory statements against the Chief of Staff.
The legal action will also seek a mandatory court order compelling Adeyemi to publish a full retraction and apology over the allegations.
In addition, Gbajabiamila is demanding that the retraction and apology be published in at least five national newspapers and across all social media platforms through which the allegations were circulated.
The Chief of Staff also wants Adeyemi to provide a written undertaking that he will refrain from making or publishing any further defamatory statements against him.
The development comes amid the controversy surrounding allegations made against the presidential aide, which the Presidency has consistently dismissed as false and the handiwork of individuals seeking to tarnish his reputation.
