Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, has raised concerns over the rapidly declining prices of food items in Nigeria, Peak Newspaper reports.
Oshiomhole argued that while lower food prices might appear beneficial, they could have unintended consequences for farmers and the agricultural sector. According to him, if prices fall too low, farmers may struggle to cover production costs, which could ultimately threaten food security and supply in the long term.
Speaking at a recent event, the senator emphasized the need for balanced policies that protect both consumers and producers, ensuring that the agricultural sector remains viable and sustainable.
His comments have sparked discussions across social media, with some Nigerians welcoming cheaper food, while others echo Oshiomhole’s concerns about its potential impact on local farmers.
