At least five people have been confirmed dead and 55 others injured following devastating floods that swept through Yola, the capital of Adamawa State, on Sunday morning.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed the casualties as rescue operations continue across the worst-hit areas, with the injured currently receiving treatment at Modibbo Adama Teaching Hospital.
The flooding, triggered by hours of torrential rainfall that began in the early hours of Sunday, has displaced hundreds of residents and destroyed over 600 houses across the state capital.
Emergency response teams, including marine police and local authorities, have deployed boats to conduct search and rescue operations in flooded neighborhoods, while officials warn that the death toll may rise as more areas become accessible to rescue teams.
