Dr. Kayode Fayemi, former Governor of Ekiti State, has denied claims made by Rotimi Amaechi that they jointly founded the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition. Fayemi’s media office, through its head Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, dismissed the claim as false, saying there is no credible evidence such as videos or reputable media reports supporting Amaechi’s assertion.
Sajoh suggested the statement attributed to Amaechi might be fabricated or a misquote and warned against misinformation spread on social media.
Amaechi, former Governor of Rivers State and Minister of Transportation, had reportedly stated that the ADC coalition began with him and Fayemi during a meeting arranged by Salihu Mohammed, aiming for reconciliation and expansion.
Fayemi’s office, however, refuted this narrative, emphasizing that the claim lacks any foundation. Sajoh noted that despite public conversations across party lines, Fayemi remains a committed leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, actively involved in the party and not defecting.
Fayemi has consistently publicized his loyalty to the APC by endorsing Governor Biodun Oyebanji for re election under the party’s platform.
Sajoh pointed out that Fayemi’s limited national visibility, due to his academic pursuits and work at the Amandla Institute, may lead to speculation about his political stance.
The media office urged the public to exercise caution regarding unverified news about Fayemi, particularly those spreading on social media without credible sources.
They stressed that if Fayemi were to leave the APC, it would be a public decision announced directly by him, rather than through third party claims or rumors.
