A suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion has caused panic at the Shoe Materials Market in Mushin, Lagos State, prompting a swift security response from the police, Peak Newspaper reports
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Mr. Fatai Tijani, assured residents on Monday that the area remains safe following immediate intervention by security operatives at the scene.
He explained that the police received reports of an explosion and quickly deployed Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) experts to cordon off and secure the market for thorough investigation.
Preliminary findings, according to him, suggest that the explosive device was planted under a vehicle and detonated when the engine was started, injuring one person who has since been taken to hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
Mr. Tijani added that a detailed sweep of the area revealed no additional explosive devices, while remnants recovered from the scene have been taken for forensic analysis as investigations continue.
He urged residents and traders to remain calm and resume normal activities, assuring that the police command is fully committed to maintaining safety and preventing any breakdown of law and order in Lagos State.
