Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno, Sunday announced a donation of 50 million naira to the Catholic in Diocese of Uyo, Peak Newspaper reports.
The donation, according to Pastor Umo Eno is in appreciation of the role played by the church in the development of the State and to take care of the wreckage the early morning windstorm of Thursday January 1, 2026 had caused the church.
Addressing a crowd of worshipers at the religious gathering at the Cardinal Ekandem Seminary Grounds, Brooks Street, Uyo, the State Chief Executive
said he was at the 2026 Uyo Diocesan New Year Prayer and Fasting Assembly to share fellowship with the Catholic bishop, His Lordship Most Rev Dr John Ayah and faithfuls
and draw strength to guide him offer better governance in the State.
“I have very high respect and regard for the catholic church because of her role in bringing about functional change in the society.
“I have greater respect for the leaders of the church and I thank you the Chief Shepherd for the prayers which we count on to sustain the nation and government at all levels, and I promise you and the entire state that we will ensure governments gets to the most interior and remotest part of the state “
“With the kind of budget we have passed, by the end of this year, we will leave no local government behind. There will be many more projects in the State.
He commended the past leaders of the State, especially the past governors who laid the good foundation for the State and promised never to abandon any of the projects left behind by his predecessors
Responding on behalf of the people, bishop of Uyo Diocese thanked the governor for attending the 26th edition of the yearly event and commended him for donating to support the church.
According to Ayah, “We are not campaigning for you. Your projects will campaign for you, but we we encourage you to do things that will make the people to vote for you.
Prayers were offered for a fruitful and successful year for the government and the people of the State
