A fresh crisis has engulfed the Ondo State House of Assembly as lawmakers accused Speaker Olamide Oladiji of convening only four plenary sittings in the last seven months, raising concerns over the legislature’s compliance with the constitutional requirement of sitting for at least 181 days annually, Peak Newspaper reports.
The aggrieved lawmakers, who are also seeking the Speaker’s removal over the alleged unilateral reordering of the ₦9.2 billion OSOPADEC budget and the alleged mismanagement of ₦44 million, claimed the Assembly’s prolonged inactivity was a deliberate tactic to avoid addressing internal disagreements. However, Oladiji dismissed the allegations as baseless, insisting that parliamentary meetings are statutory proceedings and should not be confused with formal plenary sittings.
