Troops of Operation HADIN KAI, the Joint Task Force operating in Nigeria’s North-East, have successfully foiled a terrorist attack in Kukareta in the early hours of April 23, 2026, Peak Newspaper reports
According to military sources, the attack began shortly after midnight but was swiftly countered by alert troops who engaged the attackers in a coordinated response, forcing them to retreat after several hours of intense fighting.
Reports indicate that 24 suspected terrorists were neutralised, while security forces also recovered a large cache of weapons and ammunition from the scene. Items recovered include multiple rifles, machine guns, rocket-propelled grenade launchers, mortar tubes, and other combat equipment.
The military confirmed that two personnel were injured during the operation and are currently receiving treatment. Additionally, one armoured vehicle sustained damage during the encounter.
Security forces have since launched follow-up operations to track fleeing attackers, with ongoing efforts to recover more equipment and secure the surrounding areas.
Authorities say the operation demonstrates continued efforts by troops to maintain pressure on insurgent groups and improve security across the region.
