The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has departed Nigeria for the United States to visit his family and begin a North American tour ahead of the 2027 presidential campaign, Peak Newspaper reports.
Sowore revealed on his Official Facebook page handle that will depart Nigeria tonight for a tour of the United States and Canada, during which he will also reunite with his immediate family after a prolonged stay in Nigeria.
According to Sowore, who has spent his adult life defending the rights and freedoms of Nigerians, will travel through Washington, D.C., following an extended period in Nigeria during which his movement was repeatedly disrupted by arrests, detention and prosecutions by the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services, DSS.
Most recently, the DSS announced that it had instructed its prosecutors to pause its cybercrime prosecution of Sowore arising from his description of President Bola Tinubu as a criminal. The decision followed months of legal battles, detention and resistance by Sowore and his legal team.
He further added that During his North American tour, Sowore will meet Nigerians in the diaspora, supporters, activists and other stakeholders as the AAC intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Sowore stated that is expected to return to Nigeria before the end of September to resume an even more rigorous phase of the presidential campaign in person.
His temporary absence will not slow down the campaign. The #Sowore2027 campaign will continue at full strength across Nigeria.
Sowore will participate virtually in campaign activities while abroad and will physically attend relevant engagements with Nigerians in the diaspora across North America.
The message remains unchanged. Nigeria needs revolutionary transformation, equal rights and revolutionary justice, not another recycling of the political establishment, Sowore said.
