Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has officially confirmed his exit from the African Democratic Congress, citing deep internal conflicts and growing division within the party, Peak Newspaper reports.
In a statement released on Sunday, Obi said his decision was driven by “endless court cases, internal battles, suspicion, and division” that have made it difficult to focus on real national issues.
He made it clear that his departure is not due to personal issues with party leaders, including figures like David Mark and Atiku Abubakar, whom he said he still respects.
Obi also revealed that the same forces that destabilized his former political platform appear to be creeping into the ADC, creating what he described as a toxic and hostile environment for meaningful progress.
Despite stepping away, he stressed that his focus remains on building a better Nigeria, adding that his ambition is not about holding power but about seeing a functional and just society.
This development marks a major shakeup in Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
