Akpabio said his comments had been misconstrued and taken out of context, insisting that he made no commitment to guarantee tickets for any aspirant.
The Senate President explained that his remarks were intended to encourage party members and promote unity within the APC following the conclusion of the primary elections. He maintained that the party’s nomination process remains guided by established rules and procedures.
The controversy emerged after reports suggested that Akpabio had assured some lawmakers who lost in the primaries that alternative opportunities would be provided for them. However, he dismissed the claims, stating that such interpretations did not reflect what he actually said.
Akpabio urged party members and the public to rely on verified information and avoid spreading misleading narratives capable of creating unnecessary tension within the party.
