Suspected Boko Haram fighters ambushed Nigerian troops in Kashimiri village, Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, killing the Commanding Officer of the 202 Battalion, five soldiers, and three Civilian JTF members.

The attack occurred as troops were returning from a successful clearance operation where they destroyed terrorist camps and rescued women and children. According to a survivor, the insurgents struck from both the front and rear using rifles and RPGs, leaving several casualties, including the commanding officer.

Another battalion commander and several soldiers sustained injuries, while one soldier was reportedly abducted by the assailants.

Military sources confirmed the incident, saying Operation Hadin Kai troops also killed dozens of terrorists during the raid. Reinforcements have since been deployed to rescue the kidnapped soldier and pursue the fleeing insurgents.

Bama has witnessed a fresh wave of insurgent attacks, including the September 5 massacre in Darul Jamal village that left over 60 people dead, followed by airstrikes that neutralized dozens of militants.
