Suspected bandits have abducted the wife and son of the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State, Alhaji Yusuf Alhasan, Peak Newspaper reports.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday when the armed assailants reportedly invaded the APC chieftain’s residence located in the Low-Cost area of Yauri and whisked away the two family members.
Sources within the community said the attackers stormed the residence between midnight and the early hours of the day, catching residents off guard before escaping with the victims to an unknown destination.
The whereabouts of the abducted woman and her son remained unknown as of the time of filing this report, while concerns continue to grow among family members, political associates and residents of the area.
The latest incident has heightened fears over the persistent security challenges facing parts of Kebbi State and the wider North-West region, where cases of kidnapping and banditry have continued despite ongoing security operations.
Efforts to obtain an official statement from security authorities were unsuccessful at the time of this report. However, local sources indicated that security agencies had been alerted and were expected to intensify efforts to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
The abduction has drawn concern from residents and political stakeholders, who called on security agencies to act swiftly to secure the release of the victims and strengthen measures aimed at curbing the activities of criminal groups in the region.
Authorities are yet to announce any arrests in connection with the incident as investigations continue.
