The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has given the Federal Government a four-day ultimatum to implement the new salary structure for university lecturers across the country, Peak Newspaper reports.
The union warned that failure to meet its demands within the stipulated timeframe could lead to industrial action, raising fresh concerns over potential disruptions in Nigeria’s university system.
According to ASUU, the call for a revised salary structure is part of efforts to address long-standing issues affecting lecturers’ welfare, including poor remuneration and unfavorable working conditions. The union emphasized that improving lecturers’ pay is crucial to enhancing the quality of education and retaining skilled academic staff within the country.
ASUU also expressed frustration over what it described as delays and lack of commitment by the government in fulfilling previous agreements.
