The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has called on the Nigerian Senate to declare the seat of Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe vacant following his reported defection from the party, Peak Newspaper reports

APGA argued that Abaribe’s exit from the party under which he was elected violates constitutional provisions guiding party defection, insisting that his continued stay in the Senate lacks legal backing.

The party maintained that, in line with Nigeria’s constitutional framework, any lawmaker who defects from the platform that sponsored their election must vacate their seat unless such defection is justified by a division or crisis within the party.

Abaribe, who represents Abia South Senatorial District, is yet to publicly respond to the demand at the time of filing this report.

The development adds to the growing wave of political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, as parties intensify efforts to consolidate influence across key regions.
