The presidential candidates of the Accord Party, African Action Congress (AAC) and Social Democratic Party (SDP) have agreed to work together towards building a common democratic force ahead of the 2027 presidential election, Peak Newspaper reports.
Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim of Accord, Omoyele Sowore of AAC and Adewole Adebayo of SDP reached the agreement after meeting in Port Harcourt, where they discussed Nigeria’s democracy, economy and security.
The proposed alliance is expected to bring together other political parties, presidential candidates, labour groups, civil society organisations, youths, women and professionals as consultations continue.
The three candidates said the 2027 election must give Nigerians a genuine choice and warned against what they described as a move towards a “coronation disguised as an election.”
The structure of the proposed alliance and who will emerge as its presidential candidate will be determined after further consultations.
