President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, and Special Adviser on Political Matters, Ibrahim Masari, to supervise the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections for National Assembly seats ahead of the 2027 general elections, Peak Newspaper reports.
The directive places both top officials in charge of providing presidential oversight for the party’s primaries covering Senate and House of Representatives positions.
According to sources within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the move is aimed at ensuring a transparent and coordinated process as the party begins early preparations for the 2027 polls.
The involvement of the presidency is also seen as a strategic effort to manage internal party dynamics and maintain unity during the candidate selection process.
The APC is expected to conduct its primaries in line with electoral guidelines set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as political activities gradually build toward the next general elections.
