Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has declared that he can become Nigeria’s president, saying he possesses the leadership qualities needed for the country’s top job.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, the two-term governor, elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), shared his thoughts on the 2027 elections and the future of his political journey.
“I don’t have any doubt that I have the capacity to occupy the highest office in this land and I have what it takes,” Makinde said.“But what I want to do right now, is it what Nigerians are asking for right now, is it what my party will say we should do, we don’t know; we still have a long time to go.” he continued.
Makinde emphasized that the upcoming 2027 general elections would likely go beyond party lines, suggesting it would be a broader contest between the Nigerian people and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“But where we are right now is that we must fix our party, we must have a platform for you to even aspire to be anything,” he added.
Despite hinting at higher political ambitions, Makinde said he remains satisfied with his achievements so far, regardless of what comes next.
“Let me also say this: If my political journey ends here, I am also happy,” he stated.
His remarks come at a time when the PDP is seeking to rebuild and reposition itself as a viable alternative to the APC ahead of the next presidential election.
