The United States has announced a partial suspension of visa issuance to Nigerian nationals, effective January 1, 2026.

According to the U.S. Department of State, the suspension will affect B-1/B-2 visitor visas, F, M and J student and exchange visas, as well as most immigrant visa categories, under a new security directive issued through Presidential Proclamation 10998.

The policy will apply only to applicants outside the United States without valid visas as of the effective date. Visas issued before January 1, 2026, will remain valid and will not be revoked. Limited exemptions have been outlined, including certain special immigrant categories and dual nationals.
