Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has confirmed he will honour the invitation extended to him by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Today, Wednesday.
Sowore, who is also the publisher of Sahara Reporters, made the announcement in a statement issued on Tuesday via WhatsApp, following correspondence between his legal team and the police unit.
Earlier on Tuesday, Sowore had written to the IGP Monitoring Unit requesting clarification on the nature of the petition filed against him and the identity of the complainant.
In response, the IGP Monitoring Unit acknowledged his request for rescheduling and confirmed a new appointment for Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at 11:30 am. The response was addressed to his legal representatives, Tope Temokun Chambers, and signed by the Head of the IGP Monitoring Unit, DCP Akin Fakorede.
The police letter, seen by our correspondent, stated: “I refer to your letter dated August 5, 2025, on the above subject matter and respectfully notify your client, Mr Omoyele Sowore, that based on his request for rescheduling of appointment, a new date—August 6, 2025, by 11:30 am—has been scheduled for his interview with the Head of the IGP Monitoring Unit. A copy of the petition, which is the subject matter of police investigation, will be availed to your client physically when he honours the invite, in line with Police Standard Investigation Procedure.”
Sowore, however, raised concerns about the process, stating in his own message, “The IGP Monitoring Unit has scheduled my interview for tomorrow (Wednesday) at 11:00 AM, yet they have refused to provide a copy of the purported petition against me.”
He went on to suggest that there may be “a sinister plan” behind the investigation, but confirmed his intention to attend the interview.
“Despite this, I will honour the invitation, but not alone. I will be going with a full house. To all our revolutionary comrades, as always, we move together. Let every freedom fighter, every citizen of conscience, every voice of resistance assemble early tomorrow at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja,” he wrote.
