Senator representing Kebbi central Senatorial district, Senator Muhammadu Adamu Aliero,has called on governor of Kebbi state,Dr Nasir Idris to place a ban on trees felling for firewood, charcoal and other things done with trees branches, Peak Newspaper reports.
He made the appeal in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday at the presidential lodge during the flagg off ceremony of ongoing economic summit organised by Kebbi elders consultative forum.
According to him felling of trees constitute environmental hazards and as well aid de- forestation which he described as an act of an economic sabotage and a step backward in agricultural breakthroughs in the state.
Aliero stressed that Kebbi needs to improve on her preservation efforts because the state is endowed with fruits and vegetables but lack the means to properly process them in order to showcase to the world ” we have onions, tomatoes and other very vital vegetables but we need companies to process and package them well for exports in Africa and rest of the world” he said.
He lauded the governor for maintaining security in the state despite pockets of challenges saying Kebbi is safe for local and foreign investors to come invest even as he hailed the existence of tomato processing company at Ngaski.
The economic summit was attended by the host, Dr Nasir Idris, former Kebbi governor,Saidu Nasamu Dakin Gari,Bello Kaoje member federal house of representatives and well meaning elders of Kebbi state.
