The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has said 903 passengers were involved in 101 accidents in Edo state between January and June 2025.
The sector commander of the FRSC in the state, Cyril Mathew, who disclosed this on Monday in Benin City, said, 75 passengers were killed in the crashes, adding that 304 others sustained injuries.
According to him, “15 passengers were killed in January, 18 in February, 14 in March, 4 in April, 5 in May while 19 died in June.”
Matthew cautioned motorists against drunk driving, over-loading
use of phone, night driving, and over-speeding, in order to ensure their safety and that of the passengers.
The sector commander explained that most of the crashes leading to the number of deaths recorded were due to overspending, brake failure, dangerous driving, route violation and use of phone by drivers.
He noted that the command has stepped up campaign across the state to sensitise motorists on the need to imbibe safety culture on the roads.
