A two-term presidential candidate and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore has been summoned by the police over allegations bordering on forgery and inciting disturbance.
In a letter dated 1st August, 2025, and signed by Head, IGP Monitoring Unit, Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, DCP Akin Fakorede, police said they were investigating the allegations made on 31st July, 2025, where Sowore’s name featured prominently.
“In view of the foregoing, and in the spirit of fair hearing, you are kindly requested to interview the undersigned through the SP Abdulhafiz Garba, at the Monitoring Unit, First Floor, Force Headquarters Abuja on Monday 4th August, 2025 by 1000hrs to shed more light on the allegations,” the letter read.
Police cited Section 53(2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2025 as justification for the invitation.
Reacting to the summon, Sowore, who shared the invitation on his Facebook page on Saturday, accused the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun of embarking “again on another voyage, considering that his “cybercrime” farcical trial and the seizure of my International passport didn’t work.
“He’s invited me to his “IGP” Monitoring unit section for “Forgery and INCTING Disturbance” investigations they claimed.
“I will be there on Monday, and I’ll be inviting all our people in the revolutionary struggle to come with me,” Sowore wrote.
Peak Newspaper Nigeria recalled that the Omoyele Sowore has of late, been at loggerheads with the Police authorities after alleging that one of its plain-clothed personnel stole his Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses during a protest in support of police retirees at the Police Headquarters in Abuja.
