The Ondo State Police Command has reportedly apprehended a prime suspect in the murder of a renowned Ondo-based Businessman, Alhaji Awoyinka Sumaila who was murdered in cold-blooded attack by some unknown gunmen in March, 2025.
This is contained in a statement made available to Peak Newspaper Nigeria by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ondo State Police Command, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola.
Olushola revealed that the prime suspect linked to the gruesome murder of an Ondo-based Businessman, Late Alhaji Sumaila, was apprehended after “discreet and thorough investigation” by officers of the Ondo state Command.
Describing the nabbed prime suspect involved in Alhaji Sumaila’s murder, he noted that the male suspect, identified as Ijalo, an alleged resident of Osogbo, Osun State was arrested by officers of Ondo Police Command on Thursday, April 10, 2025.
He disclosed that “following a discreet and thorough investigation, officers of the Command apprehended the prime suspect, one Ijalo ‘m’ on the 10/04/2025, an alleged resident of Osogbo.”
He added that Ijalo was apprehended “after a painstaking manhunt led operatives back to Ore, where a locally-made pistol believed to have been used in the murder, along with criminal charms, were recovered during a search of the suspect’s premises.
“Reacting to the major breakthrough of his men in the investigation of Alhaji Sumaila’s murder, the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi commended the diligence of his men and reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents. Olatokunbo reiterated the commitment of the Ondo Police Command in eradicating crime and exposing criminal elements in the state.
He stated “no stone would be left unturned in ridding Ondo State of criminal elements, with renewed focus on intelligence-driven policing.”
