The Ondo State Government has sanctioned 17 graduating students captured in a viral sign-out video, ordering the withholding of their WASSCE results and school testimonials over what authorities described as acts of indiscipline and misconduct, Peak Newspaper reports.
The affected students, drawn from Oyemekun Grammar School, Aquinas Secondary School, and CAC Grammar School in Akure, were identified in a widely circulated video showing chaotic celebrations after the completion of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
According to the Ondo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the students engaged in unruly behaviour, including tearing school uniforms and chanting inappropriate slogans, sparking public outrage on social media.
Following an emergency meeting involving ministry officials and school administrators, the government directed that the names of the 17 students be entered into the “black book” of their respective schools, while their WAEC results and testimonials remain withheld until further notice.
The ministry also ordered the immediate expulsion of all non-final-year students identified in the video and issued official queries to principals and senior officers of the affected schools for alleged negligence and failure to properly supervise the students.
Commissioner for Education, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, said the state would not tolerate actions capable of undermining discipline and the integrity of the education system.
“We will not fold our arms and watch the discipline we have painstakingly instilled in our schools be eroded for the sake of social media clout,” the commissioner stated.
Parents and the affected students have reportedly been summoned by the ministry to receive official sanction letters and further directives.
