Speaking at the Golden Health Conference in Onitsha, former Anambra Governor Peter Obi said many Nigerian internet fraudsters (“Yahoo boys”) possess creativity and intelligence that can be redirected toward nation-building rather than crime.
> “Some of our so-called Yahoo boys are geniuses who need redirection, not condemnation,” Obi stated.
He emphasized that true wealth comes from integrity, hard work, and purpose, not from corruption or deceit — adding that Nigeria must stop celebrating dishonesty if it hopes to progress.
Obi urged the government to invest in youth innovation and entrepreneurship, citing Indonesia as an example of how nations can empower their young population through support and mentorship.
