Students, colleagues, friends, and well-wishers have congratulated the Head of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department, Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Engr. Omotayo, on his appointment as the new Sub-Dean of the Faculty of Engineering (FENG), Peak Newspaper reports.
Omotayo was appointed to the position on Wednesday in recognition of his contributions to the development of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department, as well as his leadership, dedication to students, and commitment to academic and practical excellence.
Students who spoke on the appointment described him as an intelligent and efficient leader who demonstrated genuine concern for students, consistency, and a strong passion for education, research, and practical engineering during his tenure as Head of Department.
Notable achievements recorded during his tenure include the launch of departmental websites; installation of a 3.5KVA solar inverter at the department’s laboratories and workshops; installation of a 2.75KVA inverter solar system at the HOD and administrative block; installation of a 5.5KVA hybrid solar inverter at the MIS; and installation of CCTV cameras connecting the laboratories and workshops, among several other initiatives.
He also facilitated a skill acquisition programme designed to equip students with practical skills that would enable them to distinguish themselves among their peers, become more self-reliant, and improve their financial prospects.
Incredibly, Omotayo’s tenure experienced a noticeable increment in student enrollment into the elect/elect department and an improved academic performance among his students.
Speaking with Peak Newspaper Nigeria on his appointment as the Sub-Dean of FENG, Omotayo expressed appreciation to God and the management of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, under the leadership of Mr. Kehinde Alabi, for the confidence reposed in him.
He also appreciated the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Engr. Ogunwemimo, as well as his colleagues, students, and the leadership of the Faculty of Engineering for their support and contributions to the achievements recorded during his tenure.
In his tribute, a former President of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department, Sanusi, described Omotayo as more than an HOD, but a fatherly figure, mentor, and genuinely good human being who cared deeply about his students and the development of the department.
“To me, he was more than an HOD; he was a fatherly figure, mentor, and genuinely good human being who cared about his students and the development of the department.
“His leadership gave us the opportunity to move beyond theory and apply our engineering knowledge to real-life problems,” Sanusi said.
The current President of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department, Comrade Fadairo Nosif, also described the appointment as well deserved.
“His promotion to Sub-Dean of the Faculty of Engineering (FENG) is a well-deserved recognition of his competence, integrity, and leadership capacity. He is a great father, and I’m grateful for his support and guidance,” he stated.
Another student of the department, Enoch, described Engr. Omotayo as a man whose tenure as Head of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department left a remarkable and positive impression on students, staff, and the department.
According to him, Omotayo’s appointment as Sub-Dean represents an opportunity for his experience, wisdom, dedication, and passion for student and institutional development to have an even wider impact.
“His recent appointment as the Sub-Dean of the Faculty of Engineering is therefore a significant step into a higher level of responsibility. It is an opportunity for his experience, wisdom, dedication, and passion for the development of students and the institution to reach an even wider audience,” Enoch added.
A lecturer in the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department, Pastor Ogunwuyi, described Omotayo as a man driven by a passion for service and a desire to positively impact those around him.
“Engr. Omotayo is a man with a passion for service and with a goal to better the lives of the people around him. He is a goal getter and he is always driven by goals.
“I believe he will make a meaningful impact as the Sub-Dean of the Faculty of Engineering now,” he said.
Omotayo’s appointment has continued to attract commendations from members of the department and the wider Polytechnic community, with many expressing confidence that his experience and leadership capacity will contribute significantly to the continued development of the Faculty of Engineering.
