Prominent activist and SaharaReporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, has been released from police detention following mounting pressure from the #RevolutionNow movement and other civil rights advocates.

In a statement shortly after regaining his freedom, Sowore confirmed:

“The Nigeria Police Force has capitulated to the demands of the revolutionary movement. I have been released from unjust, illegal, and unwarranted detention. However, it is nothing to celebrate. Thank you for not giving up!”

Sowore’s detention had sparked widespread outrage, with human rights groups and supporters calling for his immediate release.

While he expressed gratitude to those who stood by him, the activist emphasized that his freedom does not mark the end of the struggle for justice and democratic rights in Nigeria.
