Residents of Itaogbolu, a community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, were thrown into panic late last night following a reported attack by suspected armed bandits, Peak Newspaper reports.
According to community sources, the attack occurred at about 8:00 p.m., plunging the usually quiet town into chaos. For over an hour, residents reportedly heard sporadic gunshots, forcing many to flee their homes in different directions in search of safety.
Preliminary reports indicate that one person was killed, while investigations are still ongoing to ascertain the actual number of casualties and confirm reports of several residents allegedly kidnapped during the raid.
A resident who spoke to Peak Newspaper described the incident as terrifying. “It was like a war zone. The gunshots were nonstop, and everyone ran for their lives,” the source said.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies are yet to release an official statement, while the community remains on edge, fearful of possible further attacks.
