A 32-year-old man, Rasaq Gafar, has been arraigned before an Ibadan Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly threatening to kill Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

Peak Newspaper Nigeria reports that the defendant was brought before Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi of the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, on a three-count charge bordering on threat to life and conduct likely to breach public peace.

According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Matthew Ojei, the alleged offence was committed on July 12, 2025, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Ojei told the court that Gafar had published threatening messages against the governor on his social media account, which were considered capable of inciting unrest and causing fear among members of the public.

“The accused used his social media platform to threaten the life of the sitting governor of Osun State and behaved in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace,” the prosecutor said.

The charges, he noted, contravene Sections 249(D) and 323 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

Gafar, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

His defence counsel, Marvelous Ojeleye, prayed the court to grant his client bail on liberal terms.

Magistrate Ogunkanmi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2.5 million with two sureties in like sum.

One of the sureties must be a relative of the defendant, while the other must show evidence of owning landed property within the jurisdiction.

The case was adjourned till November 13, 2025, for hearing.
