A senior aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lere Olayinka, has publicly challenged Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s account of his early financial success, sparking fresh political debate, Peak Newspaper reports.
In a post monitored by our newsroom, Olayinka questioned Makinde’s claim that he secured a $1 million contract in the late 1990s, arguing that such earnings do not align with the governor’s reported living conditions years later. According to Olayinka, Makinde was still residing in a modest two-room apartment in Ikolaba, Ibadan, as of 2014.
Olayinka further claimed that Makinde allegedly owned **only one unit in a block of six apartments at the time, insisting that residents of the area could attest to the governor’s modest lifestyle. He argued that these details cast doubt on the narrative of substantial wealth accumulated nearly two decades earlier.
The comments come in response to Makinde’s recent media chat, where the Oyo governor spoke on his political rift with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, accusing him of actions aimed at weakening the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Olayinka’s remarks have added a new dimension to the ongoing political feud between allies of both leaders, with observers noting that the exchange reflects deeper tensions within the PDP as the next election cycle approaches.
As of the time of filing this report, Governor Makinde has not publicly responded to the claims.
