The Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has revealed that she has been repeatedly approached to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) but has firmly rejected the offers.
Speaking during a recent interaction with supporters, the lawmaker said the approaches came from the Presidency and some of her colleagues, amid ongoing political realignments ahead of future elections. However, she stressed that she has no intention of leaving her party, insisting that her commitment remains with the people who elected her.
According to Akpoti-Uduaghan, political office should be about service, principles and accountability, not personal gain or pressure to align with the ruling party. She said her focus remains on delivering effective representation and defending the interests of Kogi Central constituents.
Her comments come at a time when several opposition politicians have defected to the APC, sparking debate about loyalty, ideology and the state of Nigeria’s multiparty democracy.
The senator’s stance has drawn reactions from supporters and political observers, with many describing her decision as a rare display of political consistency amid growing defections nationwide.
