The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has issued a stark warning over the scale of corruption in Nigeria, stating that the problem is so pervasive that a strict and uncompromising enforcement of existing laws could result in a majority of citizens being imprisoned.
According to the commission, corruption in Nigeria has become deeply entrenched across multiple sectors of society, extending far beyond political office holders. The ICPC noted that unethical practices have become normalized in both public and private spaces, affecting everyday transactions and interactions.
The commission also stressed the urgent need for stronger civic responsibility, institutional reforms, and a cultural shift toward integrity, warning that the current trend poses serious risks to national development.
