Controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has issued a shocking warning over the ongoing military operations against bandits, allegedly targeting the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa.

According to the statement attributed to Gumi, he warned that if the Minister does not halt the current military offensive against armed bandit groups, members of Musa’s family residing in Zango Kataf, Southern Kaduna, could be targeted for elimination.

The statement has sparked widespread outrage and concern across the country, with many Nigerians condemning it as reckless, dangerous, and an open incitement to violence. Security analysts say such remarks could further inflame tensions in an already fragile security situation in the North-West and North-Central regions.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Defence Headquarters nor the Federal Government has officially responded to the alleged threat. However, calls are growing for security agencies to investigate the statement and ensure the safety of all citizens, regardless of political or military affiliations.

The Nigerian military has intensified operations against banditry in recent months, particularly in Kaduna, Zamfara, Katsina, and Niger states, as part of efforts to curb killings, kidnappings, and attacks on communities.

This development adds another layer of controversy to Gumi’s long-standing comments on insecurity and his past engagements with armed groups.
