Gbemisola Akayinode, a 36-year-old Nigerian mother, has been charged with felony murder in connection with the death of her 9-year-old daughter, Oluwasikemi Akayinode
According to authorities, Akayinode left her daughter in a parked car for over eight hours on July 1 while she worked at a manufacturing plant in Galena Park, Texas. The temperature that day reached 99°F, and the child suffered from hyperthermia, which was ruled as the cause of death.
Akayinode allegedly told investigators she couldn’t afford daycare, but her foreman contradicted this claim, stating he had been covering her daycare costs. The mother faces a potential life sentence if convicted.
