The federal government has announced the temporary closure of the Ijora-Marine Bridge in Lagos State starting Sunday, May 18, to allow for critical repairs expected to last 21 days.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, said the closure would commence at 7:00 a.m. and would affect both full and partial sections of the bridge throughout the repair period.
Kesha explained that the maintenance work would involve lifting the bridge deck to replace damaged bearings and carrying out other essential structural repairs aimed at enhancing the safety and usability of the bridge for motorists and pedestrians.
“We understand this may cause some inconvenience, but these repairs are vital to maintaining the integrity of the bridge and ensuring the safety of all road users,” she stated.
She assured the public that traffic diversion plans had been carefully developed, and traffic management personnel would be deployed to ease movement and guide motorists.
Kesha urged residents, commuters, and businesses in the area to plan ahead and cooperate during the repair period. “Safety signs and traffic management tools will be in place to minimize disruption,” she added.
The Federal Government apologized for the inconvenience and thanked the public for their understanding and support during the repair works.
