Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi, OFR, has apologised for the tension that followed remarks he made during a campaign visit to the palace of the Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, Peak Newspaper reports.

Fadahunsi said his visit to the palace was primarily to seek justice and express his pain over the killing of some members of his political party.

According to the senator, he was deeply emotional over the deaths when he made the remarks, but regretted that his words were later interpreted by critics as a call for violence.

He maintained that he never intended to encourage chaos or violence, describing the criticism against him as unfair.

Fadahunsi also expressed appreciation to the Owa of Ijesaland for the way he handled the situation, praising the monarch for remaining calm and demonstrating wisdom despite claims that the senator’s remarks were disrespectful to the traditional institution.

The senator said the Owa had shown the qualities of a father to all, regardless of political affiliation, adding that the monarch’s response helped prevent the situation from escalating.

‘Peace is more important than political victory’
Fadahunsi said political leaders must learn to place the interests of the people above personal emotions and political differences.

He stressed that the peace of Osun State, particularly Ijesaland, was more important than any political victory, defeat or disagreement.

“Because the peace of Osun State and Ijesaland in particular is far more important than any political dispute, victory, or defeat, I sincerely apologise for the tension that resulted from this misunderstanding,” he said.

The senator also called on his supporters and residents of the state to embrace peace and work towards healing following the election.

He urged residents to respect the traditional institution and its role in promoting peace and unity across Ijesaland.

Fadahunsi maintains call for justice
Despite his apology, the senator said his demand for justice over the deaths of members of his political party remained unchanged.

He called on the Osun State Government and security agencies to properly investigate the killings and ensure that justice is pursued through lawful and peaceful means.

Fadahunsi urged all sides to put political differences aside and work towards peace and unity in the state.

He added that while he would continue to seek justice for the victims, his supporters and other citizens must avoid actions capable of creating further tension.

The statement was signed by Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi, OFR.
