Billionaire businessman and philanthropist, Tony Elumelu, has donated ₦25 billion to support the launch of the “Produce for Lagos” Off-taker Guarantee Fund and Programme.
The initiative, officially launched today, July 23, 2025, at Lagos House in Alausa, Ikeja, is a major move by the Lagos State Government aimed at tackling food insecurity and boosting local agricultural production.
“Produce for Lagos” is a ₦500 billion programme designed to ensure that farmers and food producers have guaranteed buyers for their harvests. This approach not only reduces post-harvest losses and market uncertainty but also supports local farmers, stabilizes food prices, and strengthens Lagos’s food supply chain.
With Elumelu’s donation, the programme gains significant private sector backing, reinforcing efforts to make Lagos more self-sufficient and less reliant on food imports.
