French media giant Canal+ has acquired full ownership of MultiChoice in a $3 billion deal, gaining control of DStv and GOtv. Approved by South Africa’s Competition Tribunal on July 23, the merger boosts Canal+’s reach across Africa’s pay-TV market.

Now serving over 14.5 million subscribers in 50 countries, Canal+ plans to expand its footprint to 100 million users. The deal includes a R26 billion investment pledge to support local content, sports, and South Africa’s media industry.
