The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has begun mobilising members for a nationwide strike over the Federal Government’s failure to meet its long-standing demands.
In a memo dated October 5, 2025, ASUU President, Prof. Chris Piwuna, said the union would proceed on a two-week warning strike after the expiration of its 14-day ultimatum, issued on September 28.
He lamented the government’s silence on key issues, including the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement, revitalisation funding, earned academic allowances, and promotion arrears.
Piwuna urged members to remain united, adding that the strike aims to compel the government to act on commitments made years ago to improve the nation’s universities.
